KUSIMAMA KWA SHUGHULI ZA UZALISHAJI KATIKA KIWANDA CHA DANGOTE

UZALISHAJI katika kiwanda cha saruji cha Dangote kilichopo Mtwara umeathirika kwa kiasi kikubwa tokea wiki iliyopita. Tatizo hili la muda limetokana na hitilafu za kiufundi katika mitambo ya kiwanda. Ofisa Mtendaji Mkuu wa Dangote Tanzania, Bwana Harpreet Duggal amesema mafundi wa Dangote wapo kazini na shughuli za uzalishaji zitarejea katika siku chache zijazo.

Alisema kiwanda kilianza uzalishaji wa kibiashara mapema mwaka huu na kama ilivyo kwa kiwanda kingine kama hicho jambo lolote linaweza kutarajiwa hasa katika miezi ya mwanzo. Hata hivyo alizitaja hitilafu hizo kuwa ni za kawaida na uzalishaji utarejea katika kipindi kifupi kijacho.

Alipoulizwa kuhusu gharama kubwa za uzalishaji, Bwana Duggal alisema unapolinganisha na gharama nyingine za uzalishaji katika Dangote, gharama za uendeshaji Tanzania ni za juu mno. Moja ya sababu kuu ni matumizi ya jenereta za dizeli katika kuendesha kiwanda. Na pia kiwanda kuwepo mbali na soko kuu la saruji kumechangia ongezeko la gharama za usafirishaji. Akasema serikali inaangalia suala hili la gharama na jinsi ya kutafuta njia ya kutupunguzia mzigo huu.

Akaongeza, “Tuna matumani makubwa kuhusu uwekezaji wetu wa muda mrefu hapa Tanzania na tupo makini, kwa kushirikiana na Serikali tutaweza kuhimili gharama za uzalishaji ili tuweze kuendelea kufanya bidhaa ya  saruji kuwa na bei nafuu nchini.”

Tangu kuzinduliwa kwa kiwanda cha saruji cha Dangote, bei ya saruji nchini Tanzania imeshuka kwa zaidi ya asilimia 30.

Kiwanda cha Dangote kilichopo Mtwara chenye thamani ya Dola za Kimarekani milioni 600 kina uwekezaji mkubwa katika saruji kuliko vyote katika Afrika Mashariki. Kina uwezo wa kuzalisha tani milioni tatu kwa mwaka na kutoa ajira ya moja kwa moja kwa zaidi ya watu 1000 wa Mtwara.

Production Stoppage at Dangote Cement

Mtwara 28^th November 2016:

The production in Dangote Cement plant in Mtwara has been severely affected since last
week. This temporary stoppage was caused by a technical problem in the plant’s units. The
CEO of Dangote in Tanzania, Mr. Harpreet Duggal, stated that the Dangote engineers are on
the job and the plant should resume operations in the coming days.

He said, the plant started commercial operations early this year and like in any other similar
plant, one can expect some teething issues in the early months. However, he mentioned that
these issues are not critical and normal production can resume shortly.

When asked about the high cost of production, Mr. Duggal stated that compared to other
Dangote operations, the running cost in Tanzania is very high. One of the main reasons, is
our dependence on diesel generators for powering the plant. Also because of the location, far
away from the main market of cement, the transportation cost is very high.

He mentioned, the Government is looking into our costs issues and is trying to find ways to
alleviate our costs.

He said, “We are upbeat about our long-term investments in Tanzania and we are confident,
in collaboration with the Government we would be able to get the costs in control so that we
can continue to make cement affordable in the country.”

Since the launch of Dangote Cement, the price of cement in Tanzania has come down by
more than 30%.

The USD 600m Dangote Cement plant in Mtwara, is the largest cement investment in East
Africa. It has a capacity to produce 3m tons of cement per annum and provides direct
employment to more than 1000 people in Mtwara.
